In March of 2015 we traveled to Los Angeles to work as a second unit on a feature length documentary about competitive cheerleading. The first day there was a whirlwind. We flew out of MCI at 4:30am on a direct flight to LAX, rented a suburban, and checked in to our hotel. Once we had unpacked our things we drove to Burbank to the grip house, loaded up the suburban with as much gear as we could fit and proceeded to drive around LA capturing as much material on our shot lists as we could. By the end of the first day we had seen and shot more of LA than we thought possible in one day.
By the end of the first day we were running on fumes and busy prepping for our first production day of following our subjects. We were all broke into teams of 2 and were assigned our given subjects to follow around LA as they prepared to compete with their team. The next three days were dedicated to shooting all over LA. Heavy Air is the result of what happens when 6 guys are left to roam LA.
