FINDING GOTHIC

Finding Gothic

OVERVIEW

On May 27th of 2015, we packed our bags and made our way west to Gothic, Colorado. Our good friend Tyler Enders had access to his family’s cabin in Gothic Valley which was built in the Summer of 77′. The cabin is comprised completely of local wood and was erected entirely by hand tools. It served as the trail head for all of our adventures. This trip served as a change of scenery.  It had been a while since each of us had been to the mountains.  We had a week blocked off when most of our team could go on the trip and we were between projects.  This was to be a creative retreat of sorts.  No Rules. We could shoot as we pleased.  We spent five days roadtripping, hiking, eating, horseback riding, and gathering at night to enjoy each others company.  We knew we wanted to capture all of the events but weren't sure exactly what purpose we were filming for.  Once home we had 12 hours of footage from 2 cameras.  We began to pour over the footage, imagining how the story could be told.  Again, No Rules.  We looked through the footage to see the ebb and flow of the captured days events.  If we thought raw footage suited, great... music to be played here... hard cuts, fine.  We let the footage dictate which way the story was told.  We later have used this as a way to develop new avenues to tell stories in a docu-esque way.
